A BUCKLEY man celebrated his 100th birthday with a visit from the Lord Mayor of Chester.

Ron Edwards celebrated the milestone alongside his family and friends, the Lord Mayor of Chester John Leather, the Reverend of St Mary’s Church Dr. Richard Patrick Whaite, and Councillor for Chester, Razia Daniels in a celebration organised by Ron’s family and friends.

Ron, the middle of three boys born to Florence Thompson was born and raised in Buckley and lived there for twenty-six years.

Ron went on to attend Deeside Central School where he first met his late wife, Winnie who sadly passed away aged 93.

He served in the Fleet Air Arm of the Navy during World War Two and recalls many late evenings when Winston Churchill would enjoy a cigar and a brandy with the lads.

Ron also remembers being at the Naval Training college in Exeter at the same time as Prince Phillip who disappeared off on many a weekend to see a young Princess Elizabeth.

Ron is well remembered in Buckley for his corn merchant business in Lane End and for the last forty-years has resided in Handbridge where he has just celebrated his centenary.

Ron's daughter, Joy Dyment couldn't hide her pride for her father as he reached the milestone: "Dad never ceases to amaze us with his vivid memory and recollections that  continue to give us unforgettable stories of his life.
