Wrexham AFC docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has been nominated twice in the Critics Choice Documentary Awards 2022.

The nominations for the awards, by The Critics Choice Association (CCA), for the Seventh Annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards (CCDA) were announced yesterday (Monday, October 17) where the docuseries was announced to be up for the Best Sports Documentary category, and the Best Ongoing Documentary category.

The series followed the journey of the club, the fans and star co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds since their takeover in 2021 with a total of 18 episodes available in the UK on Disney+.

Filming is currently underway for its second series in 2023, which was confirmed by Rob McElhenney recently.

The co-owners both reacted to the announcement of the first nomination, for the Best Ongoing Documentary, on Twitter, with Rob saying: “Oh wow Thank you to everyone working on @WrexhamFX and to all of you out there watching!!!”

 

Ryan said: “Congratulations #WelcomeToWrexham team on this Critic’s Choice nomination! #WrexhamFX”

 

Other nominees included 30 for 30, American Masters, Cheer, The Circus and Unsolved Mysteries.

For the Best Sports Documentary category, the other nominees are Citizen Ashe, Hockeyland, Kaepernick & America, McEnroe and The Redeem Team.

The awards are presented by National Geographic Documentary Films.

The winners will be revealed at a Gala Event on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at The Edison Ballroom in Manhattan. The ceremony will be hosted by long-time event supporter, actor, and stand-up comedian Wyatt Cenac.
