A MAN on prescribed medication admitted being unfit to drive after crashing into a parked car.
Lee Steven Jones, of Haydock Close, Leeswood, appeared before Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday (October 13).
The 46-year-old admitted driving whilst unfit, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
Prosecuting, Rhian Jackson, told the court that Jones was driving a van on Queen Street, Leeswood at around 8.15am on March 9, when he collided with a parked Volkswagen - causing its front near side significant damage.
After briefly stopping, Jones drove off. A witness of the collision followed Jones who proceeded to travel along the A541 towards Wrexham.
Jones was said to be driving recklessly, overtaking multiple vehicles, swerving over onto the wrong side of the road and at one point mounted the curb.
At the area of Plas Teg, Jones turned the van around and travelled back towards Leeswood, eventually parking near the scene of the collision on Queen Street.
Police were contacted and upon arrival noted that Jones' speech was slurred and that he was drowsy. Officers said he needed assistance to walk over to the police car.
The court was told he tested negative at the roadside for drink and drugs, but in custody was later found to have sleeping tablets and anti-depressant medication in his system at levels that could make it unsafe to drive. He had admitted taking two sleeping tablets the night before.
District Judge Gwyn Jones told the defendant: "It was clear that the manner of your driving caused considerable concern to members of the public, and it's clear that you were not in a fit state to have been driving at that stage."
Jones was disqualified from driving for 28 months, and handed a 12-month community order - the period in which he must complete 180 hours of unpaid community work.
