People living with and beyond cancer are being encouraged to join a new support group in the Wrexham area.

The Erddig 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group will launch on Saturday, October 29.

It invites those living with and beyond cancer, their families, friends and those working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at Erddig Parkrun on the last Saturday of every month and then socialise after over drink and cake in the café after.

The Erddig 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group is run by a team of six ambassadors, including healthcare professionals in North Wales and local people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer Rehabilitation Instructor Helen Murray of Marford was keen to get a group started in Wrexham.

“I see the mental and physical benefits of exercise for people with cancer all the time and I believe it’s actually a very empowering part of treatment, that isn’t always spoken about.

“5K Your Way is unique and there’s nothing like this in and around Wrexham, so I’m thrilled that we can bring a life-changing and very powerful initiative to support patients, families and healthcare professionals in the area.

“People often think ‘I can’t go along to that, because there’s no way I could run 5k but it’s really not about running 5k!

"People can just do as much or as little as they want, while others might choose to go along and cheer, or volunteer, before a good chat over coffee afterwards."
