A FLINTSHIRE village could face the prospect of losing its bus services if ‘inconsiderate’ parking doesn’t improve in the area.
Ffynnongroyw residents have been warned by Arriva that the company is now ‘looking at other options’ due to the parking situation in the village which has raised safety concerns for the bus company.
A spokesperson for Arriva said: “For quite some time now we have been having issues in Ffynnongroyw village on our 11 services which run between Rhyl and Chester. These issues have been caused by numerous instances of inconsiderate parking in the area, which has meant our buses have been unable to pass safely and has resulted in services being re-routed at short notice on a regular basis to stay to the A548.
"We have worked with local councillors to try to alleviate the issues, but unfortunately, we have seen very little improvement.
“We are now looking at other options, and this may include re-routing the service on a permanent basis via the A548 and not calling into the village, as we need to ensure any changes have as minimal negative impact as possible to our customer journeys.”
Local councillors have been working closely with Arriva and Flintshire Streetscene to try and solve the issues to ensure the village’s public transport isn’t affected but the same issues continue to arise.
When asked what his message would be to people who continue to park inconsiderately, Councillor Glyn Banks who represents the area alongside Councillor Gina Maddison said: “Please be considerate with your parking, just remember what their actions could cause.
“People are desperate to keep hold of this bus service.
“I drove through the village the other week, I go to see my mum every evening, and there was a young lady there who gets the bus home every evening after working a 12-hour shift in the local nursing home - now how’s she going to get home or get to work?
“And that’s just one lady. Then you’ve got people who work out towards Rhyl, and they’ve got to be there at a certain time of day.”
Cllr Banks added: “I’ve got to be fair to Arriva, they have worked with us all the way through and have been very patient with it.”
Efforts are ongoing between the town council, Flintshire Street scene and Arriva in the hope to reach a compromise.
