A statement from NWP read: "There have been a number of reports on Friday of a cold caller in the Holywell area and surrounding villages claiming to be running an ex-prisoner programme selling items from a rucksack.
"Please do not buy items off any cold callers as they are often not genuine and overpriced.
"Anyone who calls at your door should have some form of identification, you are within your rights to ask for this and make a note of their details.
"Remember it’s OK to tell visitors that you are not interested or ask them to leave if you aren't comfortable. Legitimate visitors will understand.
"Finally, if you suspect fraud, please report to the Police. The methods fraudsters use can be extremely clever- there is no shame in having been caught out."
