MORE than 100 motorists were clocked speeding by Buckley volunteers in September - including one going at 70mph in a 40mph zone.

The town's Community Speedwatch Group undertook seven roadside sessions throughout the month, with a total of 46.5 work hours logged.

During those sessions, 115 speeders were logged, 108 of which have been reported to GoSafe.

Cllr Arnold Woolley, who leads the team, said among the fastest speeds recorded in August were a vehicle travelling at 51 miles per hour in a 30 zone, and another travelling at 52 in a 40 zone.

The figures were significantly lower than those recorded (240) in August - but that is most likely down to the fact that less work hours were logged in September (96 in August).

The 115 speeders recorded were all in the 30mph and 40mph zones, as the group is not yet operational in the 20mph zones in Buckley.

Councillor Arnold Woolley, who leads the team, said: "Of those 115 speeders noted down, 108 were accurately identifiable at DVLA, so they have gone through to the GoSafe team for the usual letters to be sent.

"As for oddments, the very first vehicle we recorded as speeding up Wylfa Hill on September 1 proved to be registered as SORN at DVLA, so should not even have been on the public road.

"Three others during the month showed up as way out of current date on their MOTs. As for speeds, we recorded a 51mph along the 30mph stretch of the A5119 at New Brighton and a 70mph vehicle steaming along the A5118 in the 40mph area past Padeswood Cement Works."
