A HOT-WIRING attempt was among the incidents dealt with by police officers in Wrexham over the weekend.

North Wales Police Inspector Luke Hughes regularly keeps locals updated with any crime going on in the city.

In his latest report today (Monday, October 10), he has unveiled details of what officers in Wrexham dealt with over the weekend.

Among them is someone who Inspector Hughes dubbed a 'retro offender'.

He said: "A relatively pleasant weekend across the city, however a few incidents of note.

"Some of which are pretty old-school, and it seems [we] have a retro offender on patch. I can’t remember the last time I read a report of a vehicle attempted to have been stolen by hot-wiring, but it must have been over ten years ago!

"And to try to do it to a couple of modern vehicles with immobilisers, well that was never going to happen… very odd."

The hot-wiring incident referred to occurred in Meadow Court. Police believe at some point between midnight on Saturday night and midday on Sunday, two vehicles were targeted including an Audi A5 and Toyota Aygo.

Inspector Hughes said: "CSI have attended and I’m hopeful the bad guy has left forensic evidence. As I say, a very rare offence. It’s like I’ve gone back in time. Someone will have their car stereo stolen or alloy wheels nicked if this trend continues."

Another report received by police came on Sunday morning (October 9) when a number of vehicles were damaged on Hullah Lane.

Inspector Hughes added: "It seems a single mindless vandal has walked along the road, and with a key or something similar, has scratched a row of vehicles.

"Can I ask that if you live on Hullah Lane, can you review any CCTV you may have. It seems to have happened at around 5.30am on Sunday morning. Please call us and quote 22000745135 if you have any info."

Inspector Hughes continued: "Sadly, we had to make a few arrests over the weekend, drink driving, breach of CBO, shoplifting and sadly assaults all gracing the custody suite in Llay.

"As always good robust policing from the local officers and it’s good to see as I’m desperate to get back to basics and focus on the people that cause the most harm in our community. As I’ve said previously, I’m often horrified by how much crime can be committed by so few."
