Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd has praised the impact of National Lottery funding which plays a key role in supporting community causes.

Lesley Griffiths MS recently met with The National Lottery Community Fund’s local funding officer, Catriona Learmont, to find out more about the remarkable people, groups and projects it supports in the local area, as well as its future plans.

Since 2017, 96 projects in the Wrexham constituency have shared a total of £4m. The size of grants ranges from as little as £1,200 to Holt Community Gardeners to over £1.3m for The Venture.

Overall the volume of applications coming from Wrexham groups is steady, with an average of 77 being received per year over the last three years.

There are a wide range of National Lottery funding programmes but the vast majority of Wrexham applications are for the Awards for All scheme, which offers smaller amounts ranging between £300 and £10,000.

Local groups can also bid for larger grants, such as People and Places which could award up to £500,000 to successful applicants.

Lesley Griffiths MS said: “The impact National Lottery funding has in Wrexham cannot be overstated. It provides a valuable lifeline to local groups and organisations that ultimately work to make a positive difference to the lives of local people.

“Around £4m has been awarded to various Wrexham causes in recent years, including Dynamic, The Venture and Erlas Victorian Walled Garden, all of which I am proud patron of. It’s also worth highlighting this funding has been awarded within the Wrexham constituency boundaries. The County Borough area is much larger so the overall figure for Wrexham will be even bigger.

“Although the number of applications coming from Wrexham is healthy, I hope even more local causes will benefit in future and if any constituents need support or further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.”
