A POLICE Inspector has urged people to be wary of scammers after a man tried to pay for a vehicle online with Amazon vouchers.

Wrexham Inspector Luke Hughes gives regular updates on his team's activities day-to-day.

And following his confirmation on Monday that one of his officers had been bitten by a dog, he said: "Thank you for the sympathy shown to PC Georgia following the dog bite.

"Hopefully the injury heals quickly and there is no lasting damage.

"Sadly assaults on officers, dog bites and verbal abuse are all too frequent.

"It makes life on the front line very challenging for officers and it’s important that I do all I can to support them and maintain morale.

"The current demand placed on us makes this most challenging, so to see sympathy from the public and support for the work we do really is appreciated."

In his latest update, released on Tuesday afternoon, the Inspector confirmed that there were 52 incidents reported during the previous day:

8am: Arrival of Extinction Rebellion and their bus at Mold Road. Insp Hughes said: "Officers attend and engage in conversation around intention and undertake to monitor through the day. No further issues reported."

9.27am: information received in relation to wanted person – duly arrested. 

11.32am:  Male reports paying for a vehicle online using amazon vouchers at the request of the seller. Insp Hughes said: "Seller has now ceased contact and he realises he was scammed – never pay for ANYTHING with ANY type of voucher.
"Always meet the seller face to face, and remember – if it sounds too good to be true, or you have concerns… trust your instinct and leave well alone."

12.25pm: Report of missing 15-year-old girl - located safe and well.

1.45pm: Collision in Kingsmill Road involving a flatbed and motorcyclist. Insp Hughes said: "This necessitates road closure for a number of hours whilst we await the arrival of an Ambulance."

2.30pm: Concerns for vulnerable male in Jubilee road – partially dressed and in need of help. Officers attend and assist.

2.31pm: Three youths make off with stock from shop on Regent street – CCTV review pending.

6.30pm: Report of shoplifting at a large retailer in Plas Coch. 

6.33pm: Report of missing 17-year-old – located safe and well.

6.37pm: Confused elderly male. Insp Hughes said: "Calls increasing to this address, desperate in need of support. Neighbourhood Policing Team pushing hard to help him be more appropriately housed."

8.50pm - Report of missing 17-year-old – located safe and well.

Insp Hughes added: "Limited activity overnight, officers will patrol the city centre and outlying areas, dozens of vehicles and persons checks are conducted during the hours of darkness whilst we are all cosy in our bed and your police service is very much 24/7."
