A civic service was held to mark Wrexham’s city status at St Giles’ Parish Church where MPs and councillors came together.
During the service, held on October 1, the Royal Charter was presented by the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd, Lloyd Fitzhugh, granted by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Wrexham MP Sarah Atherton was joined by Clwyd South MP, Simon Baynes, the Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Brian Cameron and Deputy Mayor of Wrexham Cllr Paul Rogers.

During the service, the Leader of Wrexham Council, Cllr Mark Pritchard, made a speech in which he accepted the city Charter, and the audience listened to a special performance by the Rhos Orpheus Male Choir.
Sarah Atherton said: “Last weekend’s service was a historic and memorable event, allowing us all to come together and celebrate this great achievement for Wrexham.
“It is safe to say that the excitement surrounding city status has not diminished and I will always be grateful to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for recognising Wrexham’s potential, ambition, and contribution to our Union.

“Cllr Mark Pritchard’s powerful speech, in which he accepted the city charter, coupled with the beautiful voices of the Orpheus Male Choir is a special memory I will treasure for life. I am excited to embrace all the opportunities that will come Wrexham’s way.”
