A cat rescue service helped free two of four kittens found inside a car bonnet in Wrexham - one of which was stuck in the headlight!

Candy and Tibby Trust, which is based in Wrexham, was notified of four kittens seeking refuge inside a car bonnet in Gwersyllt on Saturday, October 1.

On arrival, Candy and Tibby Trust founder Paul Conway found that one of the kittens could actually be seen inside the headlight of the car, this grey kitten was then safely rescued.

Mr Conway then proceeded to play 'Mum calling kitten' sounds which drew another grey kitten out from further in the car and allowed him to safely rescue a second kitten.

According to Mr Conway, the two other kittens, one a tabby and one black, were seen running away.

Despite several attempts, these remaining kittens have not been rescued at this time.

The kittens are believed to have come from a colony from Gwersyllt that the rescue has successfully managed to neuter the majority of.

This is the second rescue from a car that Mr Conway has carried out in just over a week.

With 62 cats currently in their care, Candy and Tibby Trust are at capacity however, Mr Conway still helps out if there is a cat in urgent need.

He said: "There is a lot of pressure on rescues all over the country.

"I used to do this for love, but now I do it out of necessity."

Mr Conway often works long hours and is inundated with calls asking to rehome their cats or for help with stray cats or kittens.

He continued: "I dread turning my phone on in the morning in case you missed a case of a cat in need."

The amount of adoption inquiries the rescue receives has significantly reduced.

However, Mr Conway found after posting pictures and videos of the two kittens rescued in Gwersyllt he has received around 50 requests from people looking to adopt them.

He said: "Everyone wants the pretty kittens, the run of the mill kittens don't get a lot of interest."

Mr Conway issued advice to drivers as the temperature drops and cats continue to seek refuge in cars and vehicles.

Mr Conway said: "I recommend for people to bang on the bonnet of their car before driving to try and scare a cat away and to check under their wheel arches for cats sleeping."

He continued: "If they are frightened or lost a cat may stay under a warm car or climb inside."

Mr Conway advised if a cat will not come out to call a rescue in the first instance.
