THE MAYOR of a Flintshire town recently presented three establishments with potentially life-saving defibrillators.

Mold Town Council has purchased three Zoll Defibrillators from North Wales Ambulance Service.

They have now gifted them to Y Pentan, the Ruthin Castle and Mold Ex-servicemen’s Club (known locally as the Bottom Club).

The first Landlord to receive their new defib was Tim Davies at Y Pentan on New Street, who said “we are delighted that Mold Town Council have donated the defib to the pub.

"Here at Y Pentan we fully support our community wherever we can, and as a pub, we have longer opening hours than retail so it makes perfect sense to have the defib placed here, should it ever be needed in an emergency.

"We will also be looking at ways of how we can fundraise to cover the cost so the council can purchase a further defib for another location within the town.”

Mark and Shirley Gittins, managers of The Ex-Servicemens Club on Wrexham Street, or the Bottom Club as it is more commonly known were also delighted to receive a donated defib.

Mark said: “I actually have a heart condition myself, so I know how important the defibrillators are should they be needed, it really can make the difference between life and death and it gives peace of mind that should this ever be needed by one of our customers or member of the public, that it is here when it is most needed.

"We have offered the club as a venue for the Ambulance Service to carry out training on how to perform CPR and how to use a defib, once the dates have been confirmed these will be advertised by ourselves and the town council, we are also looking at holding a fundraising evening to help cover the cost of a further defib for the town.”

The final venue to receive a defibrillator was The Ruthin Castle on New Street, Landlord Gary Dakin who himself has a heart condition.

Gary said: “My partner Zoe and I have only been managing the pub since May and we’ve been delighted at how welcomed we have been made to feel.

"I would like to express our gratitude to Mold Town Council for the generous donation, having the defib here at the pub gives me and my partner some personal peace of mind as well as knowing it is here, should any of our customers or members of the public need to use, but of course, we hope that it is one piece of equipment that is never used."
