TWO bestselling children's authors from the region will be visiting Mold for events next week.

Lucy Hope will be signing copies of her new book, Wren, at The Mold Bookshop on Thursday, October 6, at 4pm.

Growing up in an ancient, fortified house just outside Mold, Lucy now lives in the Cotswolds. After years spent as a product manager in industry followed by an eclectic range of jobs to fit around her children, she embarked on the highly regarded MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University.

Soon after finishing the course, award-winning publisher Nosy Crow offered to publish her debut novel, Fledgling.

Lucy's family still live near Mold and she is often drawn back to the place she calls home.

Her second novel, Wren, is a dark, gothic adventure, packed with mystery and invention and flight for children from nine years. Set in Anglesey, it is inspired by Lucy's Welsh childhood and love of the North Wales landscape

Caroline Johnson, from The Mold Bookshop, said: "We are honoured Lucy has chosen to visit our shop to sign copies of her new book on publication day. We are looking forward to her visit and reading the book."

The book signing event is free.

For their second event, The Mold Bookshop, in partnership with Aura Libraries, will be hosting an afternoon with local author and illustrator Jonny Duddle. This rather aptly takes place on Bookshop Day.

The famous author will be causing pirate mayhem and signing copies of his books, at Mold Library on Saturday, October 8, at 2pm.

Jonny was brought up in a small village on the outskirts of Mold, where he still lives with his family. After studying illustration at college, he spent a year aboard a ship, climbing up and down the rigging before jumping ship in Dublin because the ship's chef didn't like his vegetarian ways.

Whilst working as a freelance games artist, he wrote and illustrated his first picture book about a sea monster called The Pirate Cruncher, which was published by Templar in 2009. He helped design the characters for Aardman's stop-motion movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!, and he also illustrated the latest Harry Potter book covers in 2014.

Caroline added: "We are delighted that Jonny is joining us to celebrate Bookshop Day, we have had events with him previously and they are always great fun."

Tickets are £2 per child available from The Mold Bookshop on 01352 759879 or online at www.mold-bookshop.co.uk
