Flint Town United's Chairman has been left 'furious' after confusion over their new pitch has left them unable to play at home.

The Cymru Premier side have just spent £500,000 on a new 3G pitch at the Essity Stadium, to be ready for the new season.

However, before their home opener against Bala Town on Saturday, September 17, the match day referee felt the pitch dimensions weren't at the required level.

Having located a wheel pedometer at the ground, he measured out the dimensions of the penalty areas, after which decided that they didn't meet the regulation standards.

After deliberation between the sides on the day, they eventually played out a 1-1 draw.

Following the game, Flint Town United Chairman Darryl Williams wanted to check the issue, so had the artificial pitch installers called out a day later to re-measure the 18-yard boxes using a steel-calibrated measuring tape.

He said that the remeasure 'exactly confirmed FIFA’s own measurements.'

However, the FAW informed the club that an independent assessment of the pitch would be necessary before competitive action could return.

The assessment has yet to have taken place.

As a result, the league has moved tonight's game between Flint Town United and TNS, which was scheduled to be played at Flint, to Park Hall in Oswestry.

A decision which is set to lose the club over £7,000, much to the disappointment of Chairman Darryl Williams.

He said: "It's really frustrating, the club are set to miss out on quite a bit of money, and with things being so tight at the minute it is a big deal.

"You're trying to do your best for the club and then things like this happen.

"With the money, we would have raised from tonight's game and Saturday's game, that would have seen us through for the majority of October, but now we're not going to get that money."

Former Wrexham midfielder Lee Fowler, who manages Flint, echoed his Chairman's thoughts.

In an interview with S4C, he said: "We're highly disappointed as a football club as we're going to lose a lot of revenue.

"If it's not legal then send the company out ASAP, because the way the world is at the minute with bills and covid, to lose revenue on food and drink, players' wages may be affected by it.

"It's not just as easy as saying 'the pitch is not right', there's lots of other factors that could actually hurt the club."

Flint Town United is set to host Penybont this Saturday at the Essity Stadium, but there has been no announcement on whether the game will be played at the venue.

The FAW was approached for a comment.
