A bed is available at a medium secure psychiatric unit for a man who admitted the manslaughter of his grandmother following the discovery of her body after a house fire, a judge heard today.

Kyle Ellis, aged 26, of New Hall Road, Ruabon, Wrexham, currently in Berwyn jail, had paranoid schizophrenia and had been “profoundly mentally unwell,” Mold crown court heard previously.

He killed Susan Hannaby, 69, at the home where he’d lived.

Prosecutor Michael Jones KC said there was now a bed at Ty Llywelyn medium secure unit at Llanfairfechan.

Sentencing is expected to take place on Wednesday.

The pensioner had been stabbed and suffered multiple injuries, it was revealed at the opening of an inquest. The body was found by firefighters.

A Home Office pathologist gave a provisional cause of death as blunt trauma injuries to the head and chest, neck compression and multiple stab wounds.
