A Wrexham woman who decorates bottles to raise money for charity has hit a new milestone selling around 100 in a local restaurant.

Elaine Hughes has been raising money for charity in memory of her daughter Emma Lloyd, who died at the age of 38 in 2018 following years of struggle with her mental health.

To do this, Elaine sells bottles that she decorates using a process where napkins are glued to bottles, making them look painted - known as decoupage bottles.

The bottles have been helping her raise money in craft fairs, but The Beeches in Gresford has been selling some of them at the bar.

Since Halloween last year, the total that has been raised for the mental health charity Mind (the North East Wales branch) is over £1,000 on the bottles, which equates to around 100 bottles Elaine has made.

She said: “I’m very grateful to the Beeches for selling the bottles and the money (that) has been going to North East Wales Mind.”

The bottles take time to make, and Elaine is amazed that she has made so many, and that they have sold.

She said: “I can do about four in a morning maybe. To make 100, I can’t believe I have done that but it's over time isn’t it. I started with doing the Halloween bottles so this October they’ll be having a few Halloween bottles to sell again.”

Elaine has been involved in a Christmas Craft fair at St Margaret’s Church in Garden Village over the past few years, and another is being held this year where she will be selling her bottles.

This year, she will be raising money for both North East Wales Mind and the church. It will be held on November 26 at 2pm at St Margaret's church.
