Mold Town Councillor, Catherine Frances Hill, has shared her hopes and ambitions for the Flintshire Community.

Cllr Hill, who also works for Airbus, was elected as councillor for the Mold South Ward representing Labour in May of this year.

She has lived in Flintshire for her entire life and at 25 years old is the youngest councillor currently on Mold Town Council.

Her ambition to join local government was born from "a passion for supporting people and making a positive impact and difference."

Cllr Hill said: "I wanted to support people in the local Mold community and help the local community to tackle issues, especially given the current cost of living crisis."

In her first four months as a councillor, Cllr Hill has been busy helping and volunteering with local events and initiatives such as the Mold Food Festival and Mold Carnival.

As well as supporting all of her constituents, Cllr Hill aims to reflect the needs of the young people across Flintshire and hopes to inspire more young people to join local government.

She said: "The council is primarily made up of people who are retired and people who have been on the council for years so they have a wealth of experience which is really fantastic.

"But, when you have a new councillor coming on board like myself, I can bring fresh perspectives and encourage more young people to play a role in the local community.

"As a town council we work on local issues together and what we strive to do is put the needs and wants of the residents first.

"Therefore having a diverse council means the town is reflective of all the different perspectives and we are catering for everyone."

Cllr Hill believes joining local government can have a beneficial impact for young people and their future careers as it enhances employability.

She said: "It can help you to become adaptable to people, becoming a voice in the local community and it will be beneficial to whatever your future career.

"It can be a very positive role where you can make a positive impact and support people in the process.

"At the end of the day, it's the young people that will shape the future of our town and our community."

As well as dealing with any queries from residents, attending meetings and a variety of volunteering at local events, Cllr Hill is also hoping to launch several initiatives of her own in the future.

This includes an initiative to encourage more young people to get involved through an informal networking event in Flintshire.

Cllr Hill is also hoping to launch initiatives regarding; the safety of residents walking in the dark, mental health issues and encouraging people to take up languages, which is a keen interest of hers.

Cllr Hill wants to encourage residents to get in touch if they have any ideas or thoughts on how to make the community and town better for everyone.
