Hundreds of people lined the streets in Farndon on Sunday to watch the Soapbox event. 

The Farndon Soapbox Derby was held on the High Street in the village on the Welsh Border on Sunday afternoon. 

The free event was atteneded by hundreds as they watched 35 hand-built, customised racing karts hit the track one by one through the village of Farndon in a bid for pole position.

The event was organised in an attempt to raise money for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Celebrity Olympic sporting legend, Eddie Edwards, also known as Eddie the Eagle, was also at the event.

The event was put together by a group of local Farndon residents who were set on giving the village something to look forward to and they certainly did that. 

The high street was packed out from as early as 12pm with people desperate to get a glimpse of the karts racing down the High Street towards the bridge.

The Soapbox Derby was certainly well received by those in attendance. 

One local said: "I've never seen Farndon so busy, it's amazing. This is such a good idea, I've been looking forward to coming down and watching it for ages."

Another onlooker said: "I really hope this becomes an annual event, I'll definitely be trying to enter next year if so. It's been so funny to watch, I've really enjoyed it."

One Farndon resident added: "An event like this is brilliant for the village, look how busy it is. This is not another ordinary event, it's something that people will remember for a while."
