A BROUGHTON man who runs a boxing club is opening a free wellbeing gym on Tuesday mornings at the Broughton War Memorial in a bid to help those who may be struggling.

Peter Buckley, 49, has been a professional boxing trainer for the last 25 years and holds private lessons at the War Memorial a couple of days a week.

Now, with the help of the War Memorial Committee, the venue on Mold Road will be opening its doors on Tuesdays from 8.30am-4pm as a wellbeing centre for anyone wishing to come in and train or have a chat with like-minded people over a tea or coffee, completely free of charge.

When asked what inspired him to start the initiative, Peter said: “I’ve saved a lot of lives. I’ve saved a lot of alcoholics, drug abusers, and I’m still doing it now. Through training, I like to help people who have a lot of problems.

“I’ve got a passion for people helping – I have done all my life. We all need that little bit of help. I’ve suffered myself.

“I just want anyone who may be struggling to come in for a chat, hit the bags if they want, have a go on the pads, I’ll guide people as much as I can. Even if they just want to have a cup of tea, they can come and have a cup of tea. Come in and we will help you get to the next stage in life.

“Everyone is welcome. I’d like to extend my thanks to the Broughton War Memorial Committee for helping make this possible.”

The wellbeing centre at the Broughton War Memorial Centre opens this coming Tuesday (September 20) with all welcome.
