Local MPs have reacted to the announcement of Liz Truss's new position as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative party.
Yesterday (Monday, September 5) it was announced that the former Foreign Secretary will replace Boris Johnson having beaten Rishi Sunak for the position.
Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, said: “Many congratulations to Liz Truss on her election as Leader of the Conservative Party and next Prime Minister - and to Rishi Sunak for his impressive campaign which I supported.
"It was very good to attend the announcement of the result in Westminster and to see the party come together again. I look forward to strongly supporting our new Prime Minister in her vital work ahead for our country.”

Wrexham MP Sarah Atherton thanked the former Prime Minister for his work and said the party and the county now need to get behind the new one.
She said: "I welcome the result of the Conservative Party Leadership contest and would like to congratulate Liz Truss on becoming the Party’s new Leader, and our Prime Minster. I was also pleased to attend Number 10 this morning to support Boris Johnson in his final speech. There is no denying that he delivered as our Prime Minister, and I wanted to thank him for this. He steered the country through the pandemic, got Brexit done, and was steadfast in his support for Ukraine.
"Following the contest, we now need a period of stability and a concentration on the priorities of my constituents; the rising cost of living, tackling immigration, continuing our support for the people of Ukraine and making sure that devolution works for the people of Wrexham so that they can get access to timely healthcare and GP appointments.
"As Liz Truss’s former Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Foreign Office, I have seen her first-hand in action, and I am confident that she has what it takes to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
"Now is the time for the Party and country to get behind the Prime Minister. There is no denying that we face a difficult few months, but my priority will be ensuring that the new Government provides Wrexham and its residents with the support and resources required."
Independent MP for Delyn Rob Roberts also reacted to the news.

He said: “I’m pleased that the excessively long contest is finally over and we can now get back on with addressing issues at hand. I look forward to working with the new ministerial team to provide assistance and support to the people of Delyn.”
Labour MP for Alyn and Deeside Mark Tami said: “Finally we have a new prime minister after months of Tory navel gazing. I don't believe that this tranche of Conservatives have the best interests of the hard working constituents of Alyn and Deeside at heart. We're facing an energy price crisis at a time of stagnating wages and spiralling inflation. So many people are going to find it hard to make ends meet this winter.
"Keir Starmer's been calling for a windfall tax on energy companies - who've made record-breaking profits - since the beginning of the year. It's time for the Conservatives to look after every day taxpayers not the fat cats making obscene amounts of money for shareholders. This is what Liz Truss needs to deliver - and fast, before parents are forced to choose between feeding their children or keeping them warm."
