A SHOPLIFTER who asked to be put behind bars has had his request granted.

James Beech, of Regent Street in Wrexham, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 29-year-old admitted that on Wednesday, he stole air freshener refills worth £95.50 from Morrisons in Ruthin Road, Wrexham.

He also admitted having breached a criminal behaviour order on that date - as he was prohibited from entering the store in the first place.

Molly Rumsey, prosecuting, said security officers at the supermarket were alerted as the defendant tried to get away.

As he was apprehended, he spilled the contents of a bag containing the air fresheners onto the floor.

They were not able to be resold after the offence, Ms Rumsey said.

She added the incident marked his second breach of the criminal behaviour order and was committed against an "extensive offending history."

Alex McKenzie, defending, said her client fully admitted the crimes and described him as someone who had been "struggling in the community."

He had asked to be sent back into custody in an attempt to get back onto his prescription, she added, describing his breach of the CBO as deliberate.

The magistrates jailed Beech for 12 weeks.
