WILD MOON DISTILLERY, Brymbo, Wrexham

Using the cycles of the moon probably isn't on most business plans but then Jade Garston isn't running just any business.

The 31-year-old owns micro-distillery Wild Moon, home to Welsh Witch craft spirits.

Award-winning Welsh Witch was launched in December 2019, previously and currently alongside the brand's Pop up Prosecco on tap bar. Jade took the leap of faith and put more time into the business after lockdown saw her work as a non academic private sector teacher come to a stop. Add becoming a new mum to mix, she certainly doesn't shy away from hard work: "I don't do things by halves, I think I thrive under pressure. I do love it though."

There is something magical and spiritual about Wild Moon products.

Jade explains: "Welsh Witch Spirits is an independently run award-winning North Wales distillery with authenticity at its heart and botanical folklore in its bottles.

"Our dedicated attention to detail is what makes our Welsh gins so steadfast in their roots: using the lunar cycle to energetically charge each batch, reiki energy infused processes and crystal treated for maximum positivity.

"Using Welsh botanicals where possible, we draw on Mabinogion (Welsh folklore) and Pagan mythology, to unearth a deeper meaning to our products.

"Each of our gins has an authentic meaning and place in the pagan wheel of the year and we integrate Wiccan practices and intentions into our distilling process."

The attention to detail doesn't end there for the distillery, which currently has fives lines – four gins and one rum (inspired by bara brith) – produced in three stills in 50 bottle batches.

Jade adds: "All of our products are premium spirits (40% abv), with each step of our distilling, bottling and packaging process completed by hand for an authentic product crafted with care and attention.

"Our unique square apothecary-style bottles are hand-corked and waxed, fitting with our Pagan roots."

And it's clearly working, with Jade celebrating recent success in the 2022 Great Taste awards, with her Welsh Witch Signature Gin and Welsh Witch Imbolc Edition both picking up one star in the prestigious food and drink event.

But recognition isn't something new, and Jade adds: "I am very proud to have won multiple awards for our products, as well as being seen in British GQ and British Vogue magazines in 2020 and 2021."

Asking about the name of the business brings another unique, personal element to the brand.

Jade adds: "From my wild heart, the wilderness and foraging, and I just love the moon. It's a simple as that."

Finally, has Jade received any strange requests from customers? "Not really… yet!"

As well as being available online, Jade's Wild Moon Welsh Witch products are currently on sale by the bottle at Bank Street Social in Wrexham, Rhug Estate in Corwen and Stori Beers & Wines in Bala. It is also served in the Fat Boar restaurants in Mold, Wrexham and Ruthin.
