This year, The Maelor Sixth are celebrating record-breaking results at A-Level where 50% of grades achieved were A* or A with 74% getting A*-B.
This outstanding achievement is more extraordinary when you consider that these students were unable to take both their GCSE and AS level exams due to the Covid pandemic. This is the first time many of them have sat in a hall to sit formal exams.

Headteacher Simon Ellis commented: “We have always had a reputation for high performance, these results will be amongst the absolute best of state or private school outcomes in the country.
"Despite having experienced online learning and closures due to covid show the sheer dedication of these young people and their families that have supported them. We wish them well as they move on to their next destinations. The skills of persistence, determination, and dedication will serve them well in the future.”
Director of Sixth form Mrs Penny Ellwood said: “I am so proud of how resilient the students have been, working hard throughout the pandemic these results are well deserved and I’m really pleased to see so many achieving the results they need for their university or apprenticeship places”
