Wrexham Council is warning residents to be wary of cold callers following an increase in reports of them going door to door.

The council says that they have recently had a number of enquiries from their housing tenants concerned about males going from door offering “Housing Disrepair Services”.

The men claim that they can ensure housing repairs are done quicker than the council are able to offer.

They then gain access to properties and take images which are then forwarded to a claims solicitor.

It is believed that tenants are coerced into allowing the individuals into the property so images can be taken along with important personal information.

The tenant is required to sign documentation but this documentation is removed by the males so it is unknown what the tenant has signed up to and the financial risks they may face.

Trading Standards strongly recommend that consumers DO NOT deal with cold callers on the doorstep or on the telephone regardless of what product or service they are offering.
