WREXHAM AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has given one lifelong supporter of the club a moment to remember thanks to an incredible gesture.

Self-confessed 'film nut' Rob Clarke runs Mad4Movies, which is based in Wrexham's Butchers Market.

But as well as running that business since 2006, Rob is also a die hard Wrexham AFC fan having followed the club since the 1980's.

Back in November, the Leader spoke to Rob after the club's Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney visited Mad4Movies.

But just recently, he has had another memorable encounter with Reynolds.

Rob had been checking his Twitter account when he spotted a message from the Wrexham AFC co-owner.

He said: "I sat down one evening last week watching the TV, and I get a notification on my phone saying 'Ryan Reynolds followed you back!”, then there was a message off him.

"To be honest I don't use Twitter that much, but have a profile for my shop 'Mad4Movies Wrexham', but I still had to double check with my wife Carrie to look if it was actually genuine!"

And it turned out that the message from Ryan was indeed real.

Rob added: "He basically said that he and his wife (Blake Lively) were having a clearout of their office and had some DVDS/Blu Rays of their films they wanted to send me.

"They had signed them all and said although they may not be compatible with standard UK players, I am welcome to have them."

Rob says that, with Ryan's blessing, he intends to use some of the DVD's to help his eldest son Charlie, who lives with a blood disorder.

He said: "When they arrived I was taken aback to how many there were. I will obviously keep some as mementos, but plan on using some to raise funds and awareness of a charity close to my heart.

"My eldest son Charlie suffers from a rare blood disorder called Immune thrombocytopenic purpura ( ITP ). Basically his immune system malfunctions and incorrectly thinks the platelets in his blood are a virus and kills them off.

"This can lead to him bruising and bleeding very easily. I messaged Ryan telling him my plans and he thought it was a good idea."

Rob initially started up Mad4Movies in 2006 having become unemployed after previously working in the IT industry.

Deciding to 'give it a go' by buying and selling DVD's on the advice of a friend, he started off at car boot sales before eventually opening his store.

He is set to appear in the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary which is set to premiere on Disney + on August 25.

Speaking ahead of that, he said: "The series features a number of local people who are Wrexham supporters, and I am one of them. I think they liked the idea of the movie connection due to my shop.

"I've followed the club since the mid 1980s so have seen some ups and downs -more downs than ups! - and regulary have other fans in talking about the match the following day/week.

"I'll take in all the home games this season. I have had a season ticket since the 90s and still sit with my Dad who first took me when I was seven years old, and now take Charlie with me.

"We have assembled a very good side but as we know at this level its so hard to get promoted with only one automatic promotion place and the lottery of the Play Offs.

"We'll need to dig deep as teams will come to the Racecourse to try and stop us playing, but with the likes of Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer – and Saturday's hero Elliot Lee, we have the quality to win matches even when things are not looking so good."
