THE spectacular attendances at Wrexham's Racecourse ground look set to continue on into the new season.

The crowd figures at the ground have been at a record high over recent months, particularly towards the end of the 21/22 season with the Reds chasing promotion from the National League.

The takeover of the club by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has also created a new buzz both on and off the pitch.

As such, Wrexham had the best average attendance numbers in the National League last season.

And that very much looks like being the same case again for the 22/23 campaign if their season opener is anything to go by.

The Reds came from behind late on to beat Eastleigh 2-1 on Saturday, August 6.

A crowd of 9,897 people watched on from the stands - the biggest opening day numbers in over 40 years.

Wrexham AFC hailed the 'superb support' shown by their faithful fans.

That figure was the club's biggest opening home crowd of the season for 43 years.

Back in August 1979 - the start of the club’s second season in Division Two - a five-figure Racecourse attendance watched on as the Reds took on West Ham United.

Mick Vinter scored the only goal of the game to send the 13,036 crowd home happy.
