The pensioner who died in a two-car collision near Ruthin last month has been named as 89-year-old Ronald Charles Kent, of Wepre Lane, Connah’s Quay.

The retired mechanic was in a Citroen C4 car that collided with a Mercedes Class A on the A494 Mold – Ruthin road near Llanbedr DC on July 23.

Mr Kent, who was freed from the wreckage by firefighters, was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but died three days later.

At the opening of an inquest in Ruthin John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, said the provisional cause of death had been given as chest injuries.

A woman in the Citroen was also taken by road to hospital in Stoke and the two occupants of the Mercedes were taken to the Maelor Hospital, Wrexham.

Adjourning the inquest to a date to be fixed, the coroner said that further investigations were being carried out by his officers, the North Wales Police forensic collision unit and the traffic unit.
