A WREXHAM-BASED cat rescue facing the prospect of closing its doors has made an urgent appeal for donations. 

The Candy Tibby Trust, which has rescued over 1,000 cats in the five years it has been operating, needs to clear its £1,300 vet bill if it can continue its service. 

Some of the cases the rescue has dealt with involve cats that have been shot, and dumped in skips. The Candy Tribby Trust rescues, rehabilitates and hopes to rehome hundreds of sick, injured and neglected cats every year.

Paul Conway, who runs the Candy Tibby Trust, said: "The last few months have been the hardest ever, once we manage to clear our vet bills more urgent life threatening cases come in.

"As it stands if we clear our vet bill, we have no money to feed our rescue cats and kittens. We are at the point if things don't change we will have to refuse cases to try desperately get the numbers down and it is looking more like we have to give up.

"This has never been a more urgent appeal as it stands it just isn't viable for us to carry on."

Paul said the ever increasing demand stems from the rise in pets bought during the Covid pandemic.

"A lot of people got pets to keep their children happy during lockdown," he said.

"Vets are reporting back that more pets are being put to sleep because people can't afford the vet bills now, it's very sad times.

"If everyone was responsible and neutered their cats, we wouldn't be under anything like the pressure to rescue cats as we are now."
