WREXHAM AFC has announced its latest signing - Morag the Dragon!
Wrexham locals will recognise Morag, after she sat guard on the town’s ‘Tesco roundabout’ for several years, having been crafted by North Walian firm Poplars Forge.
The metal sculpture – with a 10ft wingspan – was the product of six weeks’ craftsmanship before it took pride of place in the town.
Following its removal, however, and after several years in hibernation, Morag was put up for auction last week, and Wrexham AFC has sealed an £8,000 deal to ensure she remains in the city.
Morag will be incorporated into the new Kop Development, to guard the Racecourse Ground and welcome supporters to the stadium.
CEO Fleur Robinson said: “When we learned Morag was going up for auction, we could not think of a more fitting move for her than to join the Red Dragons at the Racecourse Ground.
“It is great to be able to retain a local point of interest in the town, which was crafted locally in North Wales too.
“We would like to thank Wingetts Auctioneers in Wrexham for their assistance in making this possible."
She added: “Local supporters speak fondly of having seen Morag guarding the ‘Tesco roundabout’ in town, and we can’t wait for her to be welcomed to her new home and become part of the Kop Development.”
