A mum from Wrexham is hosting a celebration of life event for what would have been her late son's 30th birthday.

Nathan Walker, of Caergwrle, died aged just 11 in October 2003 after a long battle with cystic fibrosis.

Now, ahead of what would have been his 30th birthday, his mum Annette Coppell, is looking to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic condition, with only half of the sufferers seeing their 40th birthday.

To celebrate what would be Nathan turning 30, Annette is hosting a celebration of life at Brymbo Cricket Club on August 19 from 7pm till 12am.

There will be a number of music acts performing including Fly 52 and Luke Gallagher who have both agreed to perform free of charge.

In addition, Annette is running an auction that will be announced on the night, with two prizes being a signed Wales women's rugby ball and a signed Wrexham AFC shirt.

She said: "I want Nathan to be remembered for the cheeky fun-loving little guy he was.

"I've had so much support so far, everyone has been so kind. I've had lots of messages from people and plenty giving donations too.

"I've even had people ringing up telling me they can't come but still buying a ticket or making a donation."

Annette has also been organising two raffles which has seen her raise over £700 for the charity, a total which she is hoping to see an increase after the event.

She added: "We have 400 tickets to sell and they are £10 each. We've had so many people supporting us and I hope that can continue.

"A group of six of Nathan's best friends are all coming. They've all matured now with partners, so it will be really nice to see and catch up with them."

Annette has a JustGiving page set up in Nathan's name aiming to raise even more money for the Cystic Fibrosis trust.

Tickets for the event can be found here.
