Yellow and Blue began their free lunches for kids scheme this week.

The Wrexham based community hub recently launched the new initiative in a bid to assist parents throughout the six-week summer break and have already seen an uptake in the service which is already proving to be popular.

Ruth Marshall, who is a hub co-ordinator at Yellow and Blue admitted the cost-of-living crisis played a huge factor in delivering the scheme: “I’m a parent myself and I know how much of an affect the cost-of-living crisis is having on people.

The Leader:

“There’s so much going on in Wrexham for people over the summer, a lot are paid events as its important to get the footfall back into the city. As part of that, if we can offer a lunch to somebody hopefully it also encourages them to come down and get involved more in the community over the summer.

“The kids are off for a long time over the summer and if parents are always popping out for lunch it can be so expensive. We’re not expecting people to stay here and eat here, people can come in and take a lunch and go to wherever they want to go.”

Y&B are offering 30 lunches a day based on a first come first served basis, people are welcome to walk through the doors and ask for a free lunch behind the front desk. All lunches are stored in fridges and have a three-day shelf life.

Ruth added: “Our main purpose is to help Wrexham smile. Anything we can do to make the community feel happy, safe, and secure.”
