Summer Reading Challenge book collection
The Summer Reading Challenge 2022 has arrived! The purpose of this free reading for pleasure programme is to encourage children aged four to 11 years to keep reading during the summer holidays, and visit their local library to help maintain their reading skills and confidence. This year's theme - Gadgeteers - is all about science and innovation.
The Summer Reading Challenge book collection is comprised of 67 inspiring titles for children of all reading levels aged four-11. Each title has been specially chosen to reflect key Gadgeteers themes including everyday science, invention and creation, and fun with friends.
The collection is presented in two lists - one for younger children and one for more confident readers - representing exciting contemporary children's fiction, poetry, non-fiction and picture books with science and innovation themes. Many of the books in the collection are newer titles that have been published this year. A number of titles will be available to enjoy in additional formats, with eBook and audiobook availability noted where possible. Cyngor Llfyrau Cymru/The Books Council of Wales is also curating a list of Welsh language book titles to resonate with the Gadgeteers theme. Read about the selection process here and explore this year's collection at: www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/gadgeteers-bc-landing
• Come and join the fun and be a Gadgeteer with Aura Libraries! To take part, children will need to read six books throughout the summer, collect goodies along the way with each book that they read, and finally receive an extra special medal and certificate at the end of the summer holidays in celebration of completing the challenge. Children can join the challenge at the library or online via the Summer Reading Challenge website where they can rate and review books, download activities, and access video content, games and quizzes.
Join Aura Libraries for a summer of science, reading, creativity and fun! Pop in to your local library or visit www.aura.wales/holiday-activities to view our list of Summer Reading Challenge activities including workshops with authors Karen McCombie and Ben Davis, plus mad science workshops, Lego clubs and Xplore Science Wrexham.
