Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales is urging people to turn up and support ‘The Welsh Cavalry’ in Wrexham.

The Queens Dragoon Guards are holding their homecoming parade in Wrexham city centre on Tuesday, July 12.  

The parade is set to start at 11am and it will be the first time in 13 years that the regiment has marched in Wrexham.

Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Local Government has called on people to get out and support the parade.

He said: “I am a great supporter of our armed forces and delighted to hear the Queen’s Dragoon Guards, ‘The Welsh Cavalry’ will be back in the town on Tuesday, July 12.

“Only two weeks ago hundreds of people lined the streets in Wrexham for Armed Forces Day and welcomed members of the military who marched through the town.

“Wrexham has a long and proud association with the armed forces and I would urge everyone to join in the celebrations and attend the homecoming parade. It is a wonderful opportunity to show support and appreciation for our service people.”

The event will begin with an inspection by the Mayor, Cllr Brian Cameron and the Lord Lieutenant, Mr Henry Fetherstonehaugh. This will be followed by a march through the centre of Wrexham at 11.25am.

Major RC Mansel QDG said: “1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards, ‘the Welsh Cavalry’ are delighted to have the great honour and opportunity to conduct a homecoming parade in the city of Wrexham.

“The Regiment are returning from 12 months NATO operations in Mali, Africa and very much look forward to being back in North Wales, one of our main recruiting areas.”
