ALDI finally opened its long-awaited Llay store today to the delight of customers who arrived bright and early to be the first through the doors.

The store opened this morning at 8:00am to a long que of customers ready and waiting to get inside and see what their new local supermarket had to offer.

Shoppers were greeted by Team GB bronze medallist, Laura Deas who cut the ribbon for the highly anticipated opening and handed out complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables to the first 75 customers.

Team GB star Laura added: “I’ve had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time."

One happy customer said: “It’s going to make things so much easier now, it’s fantastic to have this new store right on our doorstep – you can’t go wrong with Aldi!”

Store Manager Spencer Kearney said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Llay. It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks. I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support Park Community Primary School through our partnership with Team GB.”

The new store will come as a much-welcomed addition to the people of Llay as customers were previously forced to travel to Wrexham and Mold for their groceries.

The Leader:

The store received planning permission in December 2020 however work was delayed due to concerns over safety and traffic congestion.

With the work now completed, the store has officially opened for public use.

The new store’s opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and on Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
