A Wrexham Police Inspector has explained the challenges and situations his officers faced over the course of the weekend. 

Inspector Luke Hughes of Wrexham City Police team revealed they recorded 196 calls for service between 8am on Friday and 8am on Monday.

Incidents ranged from social issues, ASB and crime, and included burglary, arson, thefts, hate crimes, domestic violence and drunk and disorderly while the force was also in attendance at the Welsh independence rally on Saturday

Inspector Hughes said: "We were also in attendance at the Welsh independence rally, or ‘Indy Fest’ gathering in Wrexham on Saturday, which passed well. It was nice to welcome so many visitors from across Wales.

"We also dealt with a variety of incidents on Friday and Saturday night in the town centre - generally behaviour adversely affected by too many glasses of sherry at our local establishments, but no great volume beyond what we might normally expect or wouldn’t be seen in any large town / city in the UK."

The incidents of note mentioned by Inspector Hughes included a male being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence offences, a burglary at a premises in the town centre which resulted in a man being charged, arson at a flat on Pen y Bryn, a suspected racial assault which resulted in a man being arrested and a man in possession of weapons and drugs being stopped while driving disqualified.
