Wrexham residents will be able to renew their garden waste collections from Monday for next year.

Residents can pay for their garden waste to be collected between September 2022-September 2023 and the charge for 2022/23 remains frozen at £25 per green bin per year.

The service runs from Monday, September 5, 2022 until Friday, September 1, 2023 and residents are asked to sign up before September to avoid missing any collections.

If you paid for garden waste collections last year (2021/22), your green bin(s) will continue to be collected until September 2.

Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for environment, said: “We’re pleased to be able to freeze the cost of the service until September 2023. The £25 per green bin per year charge will keep the cost of the Wrexham service one of the lowest in England and Wales.

“Residents can renew from Monday, June 27, and will need to make sure they have paid for the 2022/23 service by September to avoid missing any collections once the current service expires.”

The easiest way to pay for the service is online at wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste. If it isn’t possible for you to pay online you can call Streetscene to make a card payment, but you are likely to experience a wait if you do so. The council highly recommends paying for the service online where possible.

Everyone who signs up will receive a sticker pack with a new sticker, which should be displayed on your bin lid from September.

The council is asking residents to NOT put their new sticker on their bin lid until the new service starts in September. Please continue to display your 2021/22 sticker until that service expires on September 2.

In previous years, the council has had a number of customers who attempted to pay for the service by sending cash and cheques, however, they are unable to accept these payments.

If you do not want to renew the service, any unwanted garden waste bins can be removed on request. Once requested it may take a number of weeks for the bin to be collected. In the meantime, make sure your bin remains empty, and accessible, but not left out causing an obstruction.

It may be worth keeping hold of your old garden waste bin for now because, if your garden waste bin has been removed and you change your mind in future, there is a charge for a new one.

If you do not want to pay for the collection service, you can take your garden waste to a household waste recycling centre (free of charge). Alternatively, you could compost garden waste at home.
