A FAMOUS and powerful Welsh song has risen through the ranks to make it to the top of the UK's iTunes charts.

Following the Wales national football team's historic 1-0 win over Ukraine on Sunday, June 5, Dafydd Iwan's 'Yma O Hyd' track has grown furthermore in popularity.

The legendary Welsh singer performed the iconic hit along with the 33,000 spectators before that victory at the Cardiff City Stadium which saw Wales qualify for their first World Cup in 64 years.

A group also made up of England, Iran and the USA now awaits Wales at Qatar 2022 and supporters are clearly already feeling patriotic by backing Dafydd Iwan's song.

Following the match on Sunday, the 78-year-old singer was joined by Wales stars on the pitch as they sang the song with him and celebrated the historic achievement.

Wales fans have campaigned via social media to get the hit to number one in the charts - and it is now in that spot as of this evening (Wednesday, June 8).

'Yma O Hyd' - which translates to 'Still Here' in English - was originally released in 1981.

It tells the story of how Welsh people, the language and its culture has survived more than 2,000 years and become the unofficial anthem for the Wales football team lately.
