A Wrexham woman has been recognised for her services to Girlguiding and charity by being honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2022.
Enid Waterfall, 87, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM).
From Holt, Enid was a secretary at Holt CP for many years and the head teacher states she supported and encouraged him to develop the school in a positive way.
She is currently treasurer of the local Friends of Ty-Clwyd County House, but her charity work is what makes her stand out and her talent in recruiting volunteers, organising and fundraising.

Called the 'Enid Effect', she single-handedly raised over £40,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust (2012 to date) following the tragic death of her first grandson, Richard, who died in 2018.
Enid volunteered herself as a case study which contributed to the charity winning a three-year fundraising partnership with a large corporate company in Wales and is one of their highest collectors of charitable donations in Wales.
She also became an Ambassador for girl guides, the Brownies, which she has been a part of since she was 7. She reached the formal retirement age after 48 years’ service with the Guides and among her many roles in the Guides, she is Vice President (Clwyd).
She masterminded the purchase of the Ty Clwyd Brownie County House and the fundraising for it. This provides a campsite and holiday home and continues to expand.
Remarkably, she is known for having hired two trains to take 1,000 Brownies to see an ice show in London and she also took 1,000 Brownies on holiday staying at Pontins, Prestatyn.
She sang and organised the Holt Village Voices – the choir in the village and for 40 years she has been part of the Church Council for St Chads Church in Holt.
She said she couldn’t have done it without her husband Norman who supported her every step of the way.
Enid had a party on Thursday to celebrate the honour with her family who she’d kept it a secret from.
Enid said: “Stunned, humble, thankful that people have bothered to send letters to support my application which was made by a dear friend of mine who sadly has died.

“I didn’t know anything about it until my birthday on 23 April and I’ve had to keep it quite since then. I feel very honoured to receive it. I will be given it by the Lord Lieutenant when he gets in touch with me.”
Welsh Secretary Simon Hart said: “In this special Jubilee year, I am once again inspired by the stories of the many people from across Wales who have deservedly been recognised on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
“As well as honouring people who have excelled in sport and the arts, these awards celebrate individuals who selflessly give back to those around them, both through their work and personal lives. It is heart-warming to see the hugely diverse range of recipients from right across Wales recognised for their commitment to charity, education, community work and health.
“I congratulate each person honoured and thank them for their invaluable contribution.”
