A group of volunteers have come together to produce a leaflet aimed at supporting those living with dementia in the local community.

Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd, Lesley Griffiths was invited to speak at the launch of the dementia leaflet at The Happy Hedgehog Café in Caia Park.

Members of St Anne’s parish, Pat Williams and Rosemary Williams, secured National Lottery funding to produce a straightforward pamphlet aimed at helping those living with dementia.

The leaflet, which has been intentionally designed to be simple and easy to understand, signposts people to the key local support services and is available in English, Welsh, Polish and Portuguese.

As a result of the work by the dementia awareness group, the Church of St Anne’s has achieved dementia friendly status.

Members of the dementia awareness group were invited to The Happy Hedgehog Café to celebrate the unveiling of the leaflet, enjoy afternoon tea and to hear from a range of guest speakers.

Lesley Griffiths MS said: “It is always a pleasure visiting The Happy Hedgehog and I was thrilled to be asked to speak at the launch of the dementia awareness leaflet.

“Pat and Rosemary have done a wonderful job but are keen to stress this was a real team effort, with a number of parishioners involved with the design and production of the leaflet.

“I’m certain it will help improve people’s lives and I know this is just the beginning.  They’re determined to keep helping the local community and I believe their excellent work could be replicated to help support people living with dementia in other areas and neighbouring counties.”
