A TRAIN station in Wrexham is set for a major revamp.

Gwersyllt station is to undergo a number of changes this summer to allow for the increase of train services along the Wrexham and Bidston line.

The passenger crossing between platforms will be closed to make way for what Network Rail describes as a "fully accessible route" from one platform to the other.

To allow this to happen, a new entrance onto Station Court will be created, as well as the installation of disabled car parking spaces and a drop-off point onto the Station Court side. There will also be improvements to the top of the steps onto Hope Street.

This work will take place from Monday, May 30 to Friday, July 8 during the daytime (8am to 5pm).

Working with Wrexham Council's Highways department, improvements will also be made at a later date to the footpath and highway by creating 'rest' areas on the walking route, installing signage to make drivers aware that there could be pedetsrians in the road and installing speed bumps on the highway.

Network Rail said it will be using a range of plant/machinery which can be noisy at times - and has apologised in advance for any disturbance.

In a letter to local residents, the company said: "Our teams are aware that they are working close to your home, and will try to minimise disruption as much as possible, but we apologise in advance if you are disturbed during these works."
