Quick Reads

One in six adults in the UK struggle with reading and one in three adults do not regularly read for pleasure.

Quick Reads provide a route into reading that prioritises great story telling and adult-focused content while ensuring the books are written in an accessible and easy to read style. The books are written by some of the most popular authors in the UK - including Andy McNab, Jojo Moyes, Anne Cleeves, Ian Rankin and Benjamin Zephaniah - so they can be a brilliant entry point to new genres, authors as well as the spark to reignite or build up the joy of reading. Authors writing for this year's collection include Graham Norton, Kate Mosse, Lemn Sisay and Santa Montefiore. All titles are available from your local library.

Book Review

Lily by Rose Tremain

Lily by Rose Tremain

Lily by Rose Tremain

Lily is 17 and a murderess. Lily is also a foundling. Left outside a park gate shortly after her birth and rescued from a pack of wolves by a kindly policeman (Sam Trench), during a storm and taken to a foundling hospital where he assumes she will cared for. The story is set in 1860's London. Who has Lily murdered, and will she pay for her sin and meet the hangman or will those who have sinned against her all of her short life pay for theirs? Full of Victorian melodrama and "Christian charity", Dickensian in style. A very enjoyable read for those who like historical novels. Liz
