Supermarket chain Aldi has announced its planned opening date as work progresses on its site in Llay.
The discount food retailer got the greenlight for a new store in Llay in December 2020, but work was put on hold due to concerns about safety and congestion at the crossroads of Gresford Road and the Straight Mile.
Residents had raised concerns about the safety of the Crown Crossroads as traffic congestion increased, which led to Aldi saying it would put pans for a new supermarket in Llay on hold until the issue was resolved.
Once improvement works were confirmed, Aldi started the construction of its new store in October last year and has now confirmed plans to open in three months.
Bryn Richards, Regional Property Director for Aldi, said: “We are delighted with the progress made on the construction of our new Llay store as we move towards opening in July 2022.
"The store will create up to 40 full-time equivalent jobs and enable local people to shop and save closer to home.”

He added: “Once again, we would like to extend our thanks to the local community for their patience and we will continue to work with our neighbours to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.”
Speaking last October, Mr Richards, said: “The improvements to the Crown crossroads will ensure the safety of local residents and reduce congestion on the local network.
“For this reason, we felt it imperative to deliver on our promise not to open our store before the highways improvements have been made.”
