A new market has come to Wrexham, helping to bring people back into the centre.
The Wrexham Street Market saw a successful debut along Henblas Street on April 9, where 11 stalls were set up and selling varying goodies, from fruit and veg to jewellery and wooden decorations.
It is hoped that the market will bring more small businesses into the town centre, where stallholders can set up a permanent stall or even rent an available space to set up shop.

Nigel Lewis is one of the organisers of the market. He has helped with events in the town in the past, and when someone contacted him from Wrexham Council to see if a street market could be done, he was on board.
Nigel explained: “Lots of towns around Wrexham such as Whitchurch, Oswestry, Nantwich, Shrewsbury, and places like Mold, they all have regular Saturday markets on the street which work really well. They have different things in the towns, and they attracted people into the town centres and again that encourages people to come into the town and visit the town more often. It is a positive thing.”
The idea was to create a street market experience once a month in Wrexham that would start off small and eventually grow. The market does have a lot of interest from stallholders, and it is hoped that it will attract not just people to the town centre, but also businesses.

Nigel said: “We aspire to have a really successful market within six months, but it won’t happen overnight. We need people to come along and support it and then the more people will come, the more traders will come, and the more entertainment we will be able to put on and it will grow hopefully.”
The next one will be on May 7 and then for the next 12 months, the market will be held on the second Saturday of every month.
The plan is to grow it month by month, adding stalls, and perhaps in the next few months it can have 30 – 40 stalls along with entertainment and great a community atmosphere.
