A WREXHAM boxing club has been left counting the cost after thieves broke into its premises.
Llay Boxing Club suffered a burglary after intruders smashed a window to gain entry - before stealing a number of items of equipment.
Some have since been recovered, with a pair of boxing gloves and a headguard found dumped in Alyn Waters Country Park.
It is the second time the club has been targeted, with the toilet block also broken in to three months ago.
Peter Williams, Llay boxing club's chief coach, said: "We're all volunteers, and everything we do comes out of our own pocket - so it's bitterly disappointing to have this happen.
"We're just guessing, but we suspect that those responsible did it for no other reason than to have a laugh - based on the fact they dumped some of the items.
"It's a very sad state of affairs."
Llay councillor, Rob Walsh, described it as an "absolutely disgraceful act against a valued community group".
Others described it as "disgusting" and "absolutely shocking".
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "Yesterday (April 19) we received reports of a burglary at Llay Boxing Club in Watts Dyke, Llay.
"Windows and doors had been smashed by the suspect/s to gain entry, with boxing equipment and a cash register stolen from the premises.
"The break-in is believed to have occurred sometime between 14-18 April.
"Enquiries into this incident remain ongoing."
