A member of nursing staff at Wrexham Maelor hospital has been arrested amid 'concerns of abuse of position and possible ill-treatment of patients'.

North Wales Police confirmed they had received reports on Thursday, March 24 from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) regarding an incident involving a member of nursing staff at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Police said the report related to "concerns of abuse of position and possible ill-treatment of patients" at the hospital. 

An individual was arrested in connection with this report and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

NWP confirmed that the health board is assisting officers with their investigations and their enquiries remain ongoing but did not diclose details of what is alleged to have happened.

Gill Harris, BCUHB deputy CEO and executive director of integrated clinical services, said: “We were recently made aware of allegations against a member of staff regarding a vulnerable patient and immediately referred the matter to North Wales Police.

"Whilst we are working with all relevant authorities, this remains a matter under police investigation. Therefore we will not be making any further comment at this time.”

Betsi Cadwaladr, is the biggest Health Board in Wales, covering six counties and more than 700,000 people across North Wales.
