North Wales and Cheshire Police Dogs paid the following tribute:
"It's with a heavy heart that we have to let you know that one of our serving police dogs has gone over the rainbow bridge.
"PD Luther was an amazing teammate to Steph, his handler, he was loyal strong brave and caught many suspects. He will be missed by Steph and his family. Run free, Lu Bear."
Just a couple of days earlier, retired police dog Saddle died.
Aged 15 and a half, he served from 2006 to 2014 and is described as being "an amazing cash, firearms and drugs dog".
He saw out his retirement helping foster dogs with his human mum, and having his ball thrown "a million times".
