Famed for his stunning free-kick that knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup in 1992, Thomas, made almost 300 appearances in two spells at The Racecourse and was a member of the famous 1977/78 promotion-winning side.
Now Mickey is looking forward to what the rest of the season has to offer for the Reds and was full of praise for their loyal supporters.
"The support they get is phenomenal isn't it.
"It's got a lot bigger since the new owners came in and it just seems to be getting better and better.
"The loyalty was always there before the takeover, but there have been a lot of new fans since.
"I remember we used to pack out the Racecourse, there would be 25,000 there playing the likes of West Ham and Chelsea in the second division, that was unbelievable."

While Mickey is pleased that the fans get a day out at Wembley, he insists the priority must be getting back in the Football League.
He added: "Wembley is a nice bonus for the fans, but the priority needs to be getting promotion. That's the one that everyone wants and no one would argue that.
"It would be nice to get the double, now they are there they will want to win it and they'll be favourites for the game too.
"There have been some dark days at the club in recent times, so getting back into the Football League would mean an awful lot to everyone involved with the club."
