POLICE are warning residents of counterfeit 'Scottish' £50 notes being circulated in both Flintshire and Wrexham.

North Wales Police officers say they have received reports of 'several incidents' involving the counterfeit notes.

They are urging residents to 'be wary' when carrying out cash transactions in both counties.

A statement from North Wales Police read: "Recently there have been several instances across the region of fake Scottish fifty pound notes presented at shops.

"Please be wary when dealing with such notes if you undertake any cash transactions.

"New Scottish notes like Bank of England notes are polymer although paper notes are still legal tender if genuine."

Earlier, the South Flintshire Policing team said officers had dealt with incidents involving fake £50 notes (one Bank of England note and one Bank of Scotland note) at locations in Broughton and Caergwrle.
