Now in its 12th year, the Mold Spring Clean is likely the largest community involved environmental projects of its kind in Wales and also has its very own mascot, ‘Springy’, who was out and about visiting the children who were volunteering over the four day clean up.

Over the four day event, 411 volunteers tackled a number of ‘grot spots’ which had been reported as areas of litter build up and collected over 200 bags of rubbish along with a number of items which had been ‘fly tipped’, including a fridge freezer.

Mayor of Mold, Councillor Sarah Taylor, said: “It was really pleasing to see the large numbers of people of all ages and abilities turn out to help with our annual clean-up event.

"It is also important to teach our younger residents the importance of disposing of litter correctly and it was a delight to see so many of the town’s children getting involved and enjoying themselves, making an impact on their communities at such a young age.”

Jane Evans, Mold Town Council events and community engagement officer, said: “I was really pleased with the turnout this year, especially after a two year absence due to Covid.

"We are appreciative of the support received from Keep Wales Tidy and especially their Flintshire Co-ordinator Wendy Jones and also Flintshire County Council Country Rangers, whom we loaned litter picking equipment from.”

She added: “Springy, our Mold Spring Clean mascot, was in great demand - especially by the town’s younger children who have taken the character to heart.

"As a thank you, this year Springy gave the children sunflower seeds to grow. The sunflower seeds are also representative of Mold Town Council’s support for Ukraine, as the sunflower is the national flower of their county.”

Mold Town Council would like to express thanks to all the volunteers who got involved over the weekend, which included a number of local residents, members of Mold Town Council, groups and businesses.
